Abstract

Multislice Computed Tomography (CT) development has allowed the design of non-invasive tests to study coronary arteries. Between them highlights CT coronary angiography which has demostrated its usefulness in patients with low clinical probability for coronary disease, given its high negative predictive value. It is less useful in elderly patients or with clasic coronary symptoms. The second CT great aplication is quantification of coronary calcifi cations through Calcium Score, which becomes an excellent future coronary event predictor, acting as an independent risk factor compared to other known clinical factors. It is indicated in patients with intermediate or high clinical risk, nevertheless there is still no evidence in literature that this modifi es patients behavior with respect to their risk factors and if this does have any impact in reducing future coronary events.
